Newburgh - The Newburgh Rowing Club will be holding its First annual Corsairs Cup Awards dinner on June 7, 2012, at 6 p.m. at the River Grill in Newburgh, NY, with Senator Larkin to receive the award this year. Senator Larkin obtained many grants for the NRC over the years and is being recognized for his decades of assistance.
The dinner will raise funds for the NRC’s children and youth programs, including Learn to Row programs and Learn to Swim programs for the youth of the city of Newburgh who are members of the club by scholarship; also for two scholarships which are given out to high school seniors who are outstanding scholar-rowers, to be presented by Senator Larkin.
The female scholarship is named for Lt. Abby Mennerich, the only female from NFA to both attend the US Naval Academy and row all four years on their crew team - she is deployed; the male scholarship is named for former NFA crew team member Marine Cpl. Joey Tremblay, who was killed by an IED in Iraq on April 27, 2005. Tickets to the event include a three-course special meal. There will be a cash bar, silent auction, and “Dessert Dash.” At 5 p.m., there will be a free event - dedication of the new, oversized flagpole at the NRC Boathouse to Cpl. Tremblay, by Senator Larkin, with a full US Marine Color Guard in attendance. For tickets contact NRC Team mom Juliana LoBiondo at 569-7600 or juliana@lobiondolaw.com. |
