Congressman Maurice Hinchey (D-NY) today announced that four regional airports in upstate New York have received a total of $672,895 in federal grants to help improve the safety of their runways. The U.S. Department of Transportation awarded Kingston-Ulster Airport a grant of $53,590, Tri-Cities Airport in Endicott was awarded a grant of $96,425, Sullivan County International Airport in Bethel was awarded a grant of $149,150, and Joseph Y. Resnick Airport in Ellenville was awarded a grant of $373,730.
"I am very pleased that these federal funds have been awarded to four of our local airports," Hinchey said. "Having safe and efficient regional airports not only helps avoid accidents, it also spurs economic growth. The maintenance and enhancement of these airports plays an important role in our local economy."
· Kingston-Ulster Airport will use its grant to remove obstructions at the end of Runway 33 by identifying the obstructions and creating a disposition plan on how to remove them. This grant will provide funds for the design phase of that process.
· Tri-Cities Airport will use its grant to conduct an environmental assessment for on and off airport obstruction removal and for the engineering design of the rehabilitation of the T-hangar taxilane.
· Sullivan County International Airport will use its grant to improve the runway safety area at Runway 15-33. These funds will be used for design and land acquisition. Improvements to the runway safety area will help the runway meet federal safety standards.
· Joseph Y. Resnick Airport will use its grant to construct a taxiway to the T-hangar taxilane segments A and B. The taxilane segments being constructed with these funds are necessary to serve as access to future T-hangers.
