Arrest in Murder of Cosimo Dibrizzi
NEWBURGH - An arrest was made today for the murder of Cosimo Dibrizzi and the shooting of his son Nicholas Dibrizzi.
On May 10, 2004 at 9:45 AM, the Town of Newburgh Police responded to the Dibrizzi residence to the report of shots being fired at that location. Both Cosimo and Nicholas Dibrizzi had been shot by an unknown gunman, described as a white male approximately 45 years old, 6'0" to 6'2' tall, 220 lbs., with light colored hair and armed with a handgun.
Cosimo Dibrizzi died August 30, 2004 at Westchester Medical Center from injuries caused by the gunshot wounds. Nicholas Dibrizzi has recovered from his injuries.
Since the start of the investigation, the Town of Newburgh Police Department has been assisted by the New York State Police BCI Major Crimes Unit, the Orange County District Attorney, the NYS Parole, the F.B.I. and the Greater Newburgh Area IMPACT Task Force. For the past 3 1/2 years hundreds of leads have been followed up on. With information developed by the New York State Police Forensic Lab the following suspect has been charged in connection with this case.
Suspect Dennis J Sweeney from Walden, New York has been charged with the murder of Cosimo Dibrizzi, additional charges are pending.
