Rutberg Basso Settles Negligent Driving Case

POUGHKEEPSIE – Rutberg Basso Personal Injury Law has obtained a $1.25 million settlement for the victim of a motor vehicle accident. The case involved a crossover automobile crash during a rainstorm, which the driver blamed on weather conditions.  The plaintiff suffered severe injuries requiring multiple surgeries.

Said Rutberg Basso Senior Trial Attorney Steven H. Cohen, who settled the case while in court, “Jurors today understand that drivers must take responsibility for knowing the road and weather conditions and driving appropriately and safely.”

“Bad weather doesn’t cause accidents — bad driving does,” said Marty Rutberg of Rutberg Basso. “During inclement weather, drivers must drive with extra caution, as these conditions require 100% attention without distractions.”

The resolution of this case of negligent driving follows another, even larger settlement of a defective roadway case ($1.5 million) also concluded by Cohen, after five days of trial.

The firm has also been retained by several victims of the Metro-North train derailment on Dec. 1, which killed four people and injured dozens of others.

In the Hudson Valley, Rutberg Basso Personal Injury Law is based at 3344 Route 9 North, Poughkeepsie. Offices are also located at Newburg, Monticello, Utica and Albany.  For more information visit RutbergBasso.com.
