Haynes appointed to fill trustee seat at Howland

Donna Haynes

BEACON - On September 3rd, Donna Haynes was appointed to fill the Howland Public Library trustee seat of David Lemon, who regrettably was unable to complete his term of office. Her term will end June 30, 2014. Donna is a marketing professional specializing in tourism and partnership promotion. She’s married to percussionist Jeff Haynes, a prominent recording and touring musician and teaching artist. They have three kids: Valerie, a sophomore at Lincoln University in PA; Oji, a seventh grader at Rombout Middle School; and Dirani, a fifth grader at JV Forrestal Elementary.

Donna and her family moved to Beacon in 2003 from Brooklyn. They found Beacon by Googling Hudson Valley communities. Reading about Beacon’s cultural diversity and the art scene that was unfolding motivated them to drive up and explore. Asking Donna what was the biggest selling point for them, she is quick to say, "We fell in love just driving over the Beacon/Newburgh Bridge. We sold our house and moved up less than three months later!"

Donna resigned from her marketing position at NYC Transit after moving upstate, because managing the commute with a young family and Jeff’s intense touring schedule was a challenge. They struggled financially, and Donna did a lot of freelance and volunteer marketing work, until landing a job at Dutchess County Tourism. She was the manager of group travel for about two and a half years, promoting Dutchess County/Hudson Valley attractions to the motorcoach market.

Haynes rejoined the MTA family in 2008 as the Manager of Promotional Partnerships. Donna promotes leisure travel to destinations within Metro-North’s service area.
